TCPContoller

Welcome to the homesite of TCPContoller. This is just a "getting started" website until I can post something of real value here. I'm trying to get the project going before I try and make the website look all that great.

The one question everyone asks me is "What is TCPContoller and why would I want to use it?" Basically, TCPContoller is a set of controller scripts to manage TCP services such as Telnet, FTP and SMTP. Inetd and now xinetd have been the mainstay TCP service providers in UNIX for years. It provides a TCP service as well as rudimentary security through TCP wrappers. This set of controller scripts utilize various parts of the USCPI-TCP package written by Dan Bernstein to replace indetd with some more configurable options. This project is not indended to start a inetd vs. uscpi-tcp war. Both have their place in the world. This is simply one alternative in the vast world of free software.

Some major goals:

  1. Create System V-style maniplation scripts
  2. Create a rules-builder script that builds the rules files
  3. Provide good documentation on subject
  4. Possibly create a web-based management utility
